About the session
FAMILY AND CHILDREN SESSIONS
Because children (especially young children) are most comfortable in familiar environments, I recommend photographing them at home where they’re surrounded by the people and possessions they love but if you have a favorite park or hang out, we can meet there.
Since young children generally don’t have a very long attention span, I usually begin the session with a few “relaxed posed” group shots. Then I will gently direct you and your children with games, fun movements, and active posing, so that I can begin capturing those spontaneous expressions and natural interactions. You will be surprised to find how relaxed and enjoyable your session will be. Often my favorites photos are the captures that take place during the “in between” moments.
Since your photo shoot is not likely to be the portrait torture sessions you may recall from past studio experiences, please be sure to keep the mood before and during the session light hearted, laidback and fun. The time right before your photo shoot is not the time for harsh scolding or demands to smile on command. If you’re running late, or if your little one spilled grape juice on their shirt, or if the baby won’t stop crying… take a deep breath and relax. We do not need perfection in order to get perfect photos!
HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS
Your high school senior portrait is a milestone. You are about to begin a new chapter in your life full of promises and dreams. Every senior wants these photos to be special and unique so forgo the standard school picture this year. Each custom tailored photo session is based on the personality and style of the senior. So, no two shoots are the exact same. Let’s create a unique, on-location shot instead! Downtown Asheville has eclectic shops, unusual textured walls, seedy, but safe alleys…..the perfect backdrop for your cool, hip portrait; or perhaps you’d prefer to be photographed in nature or at your home. Not everyone gets the same photos.
Feel free to bring a few outfit changes and props for you to wear or hold. Great prop ideas include hats, sun glasses, musical instruments, Letterman jackets, flowers, balloons, and heirloom items.
Feel free to bring your friends too! They will help you to feel relaxed and at ease.
ENGAGEMENT AND COUPLES
Whether the ring was just placed on your finger last week or it’s been there for 10 years who needs a reason to express your love? Celebrate your relationship with photos of the two of you together.
Think of a session more like a date with your fiancé or partner (except I will be there to capture your intimacy). You can bring a picnic basket and blanket to the park, a canoe to the lake, or just bring yourselves and we’ll stroll around downtown. The options are unlimited.
