Resources for photographers

Hi. I'm Linnae Harris, web designer & photographer. I help photographers make magnetic websites that attract their ideal peeps.

What to look for when hiring a web designer

1. Who is leading the show?

My sister hired a web designer for her new coaching business a few years ago. She didn’t know how to choose the best web designer so she went with someone who seemed knowledgeable and offered a fairly cheap price. Sadly, it was before I started my web design biz.

My sister found herself in the position of leading the whole process. She would suggest ideas and send the designer her copy and photos and the designers would create what she suggested with little or no input on her end. She was little more than an order taker.

It may seem like a good plan at first, but where is the pro? My sister isn’t a web designer or digital marketer and had no clue what should be on her website – and it seems her designer apparently either didn’t know or just didn’t bother to take the extra effort to tell her. Fast forward to a year later, and my sister was still tweaking and refining her site because she was so unhappy with it. (Don’t worry, Sis eventually came in to save the day!)

The point of my story is this: From day one, with me, you will not just know who the marketing pro is but also have me as your ultimate resource to get your online presence done right!

I’ll be walking you through my Web Design and Business Coaching package which will create the foundation for your new website and more. With finely-tuned copy and your amazing imagery, your site will attract your ideal clients to you like magic.

Trust me. You don’t need to know how you want your new website to look at this point. That’s what our work together will determine.

2. What web design services do they offer?

You will want to be clear on each web designers’ offerings so you can compare apples to apples. Are you just getting the website design or are you getting the whole kit and caboodle?

We’ll have at least ten 1:1 zoom calls where we’ll discuss branding strategy, business coaching and marketing, as well as many communications about your new rocking website.  You get a great designer and a knowledgeable coach all rolled into one. Let’s party!

3. What if you want to make changes to your site at a later date?

It’s important to ask what platform a web designer uses and if you will be able to make changes on your own.

Some software programs are easier than others to learn. So even if the designer says you can make changes don’t assume it’s as easy as they say. Try out the program yourself and see if you understand how you would be expected to make changes on your own.

If you can’t, what now?

Will they be providing you with training so you will know a year from now how to change the text of a headline or to swap out photos in your galleries?

I use SHOWIT which is a drag and drop platform specifically created for photographers. The most helpful aspect of Showit, is that it is very intuitive to use. Even though there are tons of YouTube videos available, I’ll show you how to make changes during one of our last zoom meetings.

In addition, when your site is launched and our work together is over, you will be left with personalized videos and I’ll show you step-by-step instructions on how to make basic changes to your site. Don’t worry, I have your back! 🙂

4. Do you really want to hire a web designer who doesn’t know what it’s like to run a photography business? Someone who doesn’t understand what your clients want and what they’re specifically looking for?

As a practicing, professional photographer myself, I truly understand your needs and desires.

I get how you love every one of your photos and it’s just so frickin’ hard to cull for your online gallery.

I understand how challenging it is to develop your niche, style and differentiator. I’ve been there. I struggled through all those online exercises.

It took me forever to develop systems to run my business efficiently and to find successful marketing that helped me  grow.

I did the work and figured things out, but I did it alone. It took me SO much longer than it needed to. I wish I hired a coach early in my career, but I wanted to save money. I didn’t feel it was worth spending the money on myself and my business. It’s a regret that I live with. I hope you don’t make the same mistake I made.

I understand where you’re at in your career right now. You’re ready to make some BIG changes. Let me help you. You’re worth it!

What are you waiting for? You HAVE found the best web designer! 🙂
